ÑÇÖÞɫͼ’s Student Support Centers (SSC) began in 1992 with support
from the California Healthy Start program. ÑÇÖÞɫͼ was
particularly successful in obtaining these grants and established
SSC’s at many of the district’s neediest schools.
Though Healthy Start grants were limited to five years of
funding, many of these schools continued providing services after
grant funding ended. Between 1992 and 2009, when the last
Healthy Start grants were awarded, ÑÇÖÞɫͼ received 14 operational
grants to establish SSCs at 26 schools. Some of these 26
still remain, while additional sites continue to inquire about
and bring SSCs to their school communities.
